Developing a Leader’s Brain
Posted on Tue, 03/02/2010 - 07:37 by Debra SloverI was thrilled to read an article in the Eugene Register Guard over the weekend called Brains Explained - UO scientists' video puts a heady topic within anyone's grasp.
Neuroscientist and professor Helen Neville explains the work of the Brain Development Lab at the University of Oregon and their exciting new video called Changing Brains. It can be viewed at www.changingbrains.org. It uses fact-based research and shows how childhood brain development is guided by experience and environment.
This article and video totally spoke to my passion about leadership development in children and adults. In Chapter 2 of my books, I talk about how we aren’t fixed and have the ability to rewire our brain by creating a unique purpose and aim and paying attention to how we relate to the world around us.
The video explains in lay terms how we develop a variety of skills in our brain necessary to succeed in the world from early childhood. The video clips are informative, useful, and worthy of view for every grandparent, parent, caregiver, and teacher who wants children to reach their unique potential. It’s up to us to create to provide the experiences and environment for them to flourish.
