Parents, Grandparents, and Other Caregivers: Get the Help You Need to Foster Children's Self-Worth, Life Skills, and Leadership Qualities at a special Halloween Event

ALBANY, OR:  Trick or Treat with Purpose and Aim is the theme for a unique book signing/face painting Halloween event Saturday, October 31 from 11:00am - 3:00pm at Wind Horse Coffee and Tea in downtown Milwaukie, Oregon. Featured is Oregon author Debra Slover and illustrator Darlene Warner sharing their new release U.N.I.Q.U.E. KIDS: Growing My Leadership Garden. One free character face painting from the story will be available with the purchase of each book, along with additional face painting by Darlene.

Debra uses a delightfully illustrated farm fable, and a lost sheep to teach children the methods of self-empowerment and positive behavior. Central to the book theme is growing your leadership with a unique purpose and aim by using leader-friendly gardening practices.

For parents and family members facing the challenges of developing children's leadership skills and sense of self-worth while creating a safe, supportive climate, the acronym, U.N.I.Q.U.E. may provide a handy toolkit: Understanding, Nurturing, Inventive, Quality, Unstoppable, Expression.

Each letter gets an entire chapter in the book designed to painlessly incorporate anti-bullying and empowerment strategies into the work you are already doing with the children in your care.

Taking one letter at a time, Slover walks the reader through creating and encouraging the life-affirming, esteem-building, leadership skills characteristic, and harnessing the six qualities together to form a "Leadership Garden Legacy" based on mutual respect, cooperation, teamwork, and other values. Kids who have been bullied may respond especially well.

U.N.I.Q.U.E. Kids and the accompanying Activity Guide are designed as learning aids to involve the active participation of grownups who can read the book with a child (8-12), facilitate the activities, and provide mentoring and reinforcement in the Leadership Garden concepts.

In a homeschooling support network or school, the book and activities directly target Oregon state learning standards. For discounted bulk pricing, please visit: http://www.leadershipgardenlegacy.com/leadership-garden/bulk-discount
